Q: When did you tell friends and family you were hoping to adopt?
A: Three months into our marriage we were told we wouldn't have children. We planned to adopt at some point in the future, but didn't tell anyone. A year or so into our marriage we ended up getting two cats and they became our "children." When people asked us about our plans for children (and during the next four years it became increasingly frequent) we told them we were still practicing being parents to our pets.
Once we actually made the decision we were ready to adopt and we had our homestudy completed - we told everyone of our hopes to adopt. We were approved around Christmas time and we sent out emails to all our friends and family expressing our desire to adopt a baby and asking for their help. Those who emailed us back told us how excited they were for us - it was great!
