We have some new goals at our house to eat healthier food. We're also trying to find the best food sources, too.
It's been easier for us to just eat the same things over and over, but one change we're making is to try to have fish once per week (starting this week). We found this neat guide to help us buy fish that's good for us and good for a sustainable environment.
Maybe you'd like to try it too! You can print it out and stick it in your pocket so you don't forget which fish is good to buy and which is bad. The last thing you want to do is eat fish that's contaminated or overfished, while thinking it's a good/healthy choice!
Also be careful when feeding fish to your children. There are guidelines you should follow.
Some of the fish it lists safe to eat once per week:
anchovies, clams, Dungeness crab, king
crab (U.S.), snow crab, Pacific cod, crawfish (U.S.), Atlantic herring (Canada/U.S.), spiny lobster
(Australia/Baja/U.S.), Atlantic mackerel, blue mussels, farmed oysters, Alaska pollock, canned
pink/sockeye salmon, sardines, scallops, shrimp (Canada/U.S.), squid, tilapia (Latin America/U.S.).
My favorite food? Salmon. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI love the fish once a week goal. :)
