In April 2002, Elder Maxwell gave a talk titled "Consecrate Thy Performance." He said, " In pondering and pursuing consecration, understandably we tremble inwardly at what may be required. Yet the Lord has said consolingly, “My grace is sufficient for you” (D&C 17:8). Do we really believe Him? He has also promised to make weak things strong (see Ether 12:27). Are we really willing to submit to that process? Yet if we desire fulness, we cannot hold back part!"
Remember the story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts chapter 5? They sold a possession and held back part of the price. They lied to the Apostle Peter, but worse for them, they lied to The Lord. They set forth to obey the law of consecration, but it cannot be obeyed half-heartedly or in part. If we desire ALL the blessings the Lord offers, we too must be willing to give ALL. 2 Corinthians 9:7 "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."
He knows our heart and our intent to give. He also knows our capacity. He will prepare the way for all things to be accomplished. Then we we can say as the Psalm, 13:5 "But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall Rejoice in thy salvation." Trust in His atonement and He shall work all things for our good.
